Six days in the Valley. Dal Lake houseboats in Srinagar, Gulmarg's Gondola to Apharwat Peak, Pahalgam's Betaab and Aru valleys, and the saffron fields of Pampore on the drive back. Mughal gardens, shikara rides, kahwa tea and the aroma of wazwan.
Fly into Srinagar (SXR). Transfer to a Dal Lake ghat and board your houseboat by shikara. Afternoon shikara cruise through the lotus canals, the floating vegetable market, Char Chinar island and the Rainawari backwaters. Evening kahwa tea and a traditional Wazwan-style dinner on the boat. Overnight on the houseboat.
Morning: the three Mughal gardens built by Shah Jahan and Jahangir โ Shalimar Bagh, Nishat Bagh (terraced, with Dal Lake views), and Chashme Shahi spring garden. Lunch at a local Kashmiri kitchen for rogan josh and gushtaba. Afternoon: Hazratbal shrine on the lake's northern bank, Jamia Masjid's deodar-pillared prayer hall in the Old City, and the Shankaracharya temple on the hill at sunset.
Drive 2.5 hours west to Gulmarg (2,650 m) โ the 'Meadow of Flowers'. Two-stage Gondola: Phase 1 to Kongdoori, Phase 2 to Apharwat Peak (4,200 m). In winter: skiing, sledging, ski school. In summer: alpine meadows carpeted with iris and saffron, views to Nanga Parbat. St. Mary's Church and the 9-hole golf course (highest grass golf course in the world). Drive back to Srinagar for the houseboat.
Check out of houseboat after breakfast. Drive 3 hours south via Pampore's saffron fields (bloom: October-November) and Awantipora temple ruins. Arrive Pahalgam (2,740 m). Afternoon: Betaab Valley (named after the Bollywood film shot here) and Chandanwari with the Lidder river rapids. Evening trout dinner at the resort.
Full day in Pahalgam's side valleys. Drive to Aru Valley (11 km) โ meadows, pine forests, pony rides through the upper ridges. Picnic lunch. Return via Chandanwari for the Sheshnag lake trail (short walk or full Amarnath route starting point). Evening at leisure on the Lidder riverbank.
Early drive north to Sonamarg (2,800 m) โ 'Meadow of Gold'. Optional pony ride to Thajiwas Glacier (seasonal May-Sept). Packed lunch. Drive to Srinagar airport via the scenic Sindh Valley for your flight home.
