Four days in Marwar. Mehrangarh's massive bastions, the indigo-washed old city, Jaswant Thada marble memorial and an evening in a desert village with folk musicians.
Fly into Jodhpur (direct from Delhi or via Jaipur). Transfer to a havelli heritage hotel inside the old blue city. Afternoon: walk to Ghanta Ghar (the clock tower) and Sardar Market — dyers, mirror-work, lac bangles, tea stalls. Sunset rooftop view of Mehrangarh's ramparts. Dinner of laal maas (red mutton) in a rooftop restaurant.
Full day at Mehrangarh Fort — the Maharaja's living fort, perched on a 122-metre cliff. Palaces within palaces: Moti Mahal (Pearl), Sheesh Mahal (Mirror), Phool Mahal (Flower). Audio guide recommended. Optional: Flying Fox zipline circuit across the fort walls. Lunch at the fort's Chokelao Bagh. Afternoon: Jaswant Thada marble cenotaph and the Stepwell at Toorji-ka-Jhalra.
Morning jeep safari to a Bishnoi village, 25 km out — Rajasthan's famous conservationist community who protect the blackbuck and khejri tree. Opium tea ceremony (symbolic, now non-narcotic), potter demo, hand-loom weavers, lunch of traditional Bishnoi fare. Spotting: blackbuck, chinkara, demoiselle cranes in winter.
Drive 9 km to Mandore Gardens — red sandstone cenotaphs of Marwar rulers among palm groves. Back to the hotel, check out and transfer to Jodhpur airport for your flight home.
October to March — daytime 20-25°C, cool desert nights.
